Things yousee as a child but never forget.

I'm blessed with a good memory(except names to faces).

My recollection of things is very vivid.

I remember when my mum, dad, sister and I were going on holiday and flying from Gatwick.

The journey down there was boring, as most car journeys are to kids, when we came across an accident.

A car was lying on it's side, a lady lay next to it in the road.

She had a beige skirt on, brown shoes and a black top.

I remember it as if it was last year...I was just 4 at the time.

A fascinating thing, the brain.

I know what you mean some things stay with you...

When mum tried making bisto and as the water hit the pan the flame shot up and hit the ceiling.I thought we were all going to die..I was only tiny..

When the neighbours boy crept under the table and bit me in the thigh..( I was about 3 or so)
I couldnt scream the pain was so bad I remember my mouth open wide and the tears pricking at my eyes. I could hear mum saying whats wrong but I couldnt speak , it was as if all the air had been knocked out of me.
Little monster drew blood and almost took the whole chunk of flesh out.. I needed hospital treatment for that.
Maybe thats why I prefer dogs to people?

Mum used to flick water on the iron to see if it was hot enough.
It sizzled

So I poured cold water on to a hot glass plate ... ... no nice sizzling noise, it broke in half

Hi

My Granny, sneaking over to her house because she made better gravy than my Mum.

Uncle Jim, much younger than the rest, he drove a bulldozer, he let me sit on his knee and move the levers.

He also took me fishing in the Mill Lodges, a place I was totally banned from, great fun.

Cousin Eileen showing me her boobs and letting me touch them.

Hooked for life.

Going to North Weald aerodrome with my parents. I was about 10 years old and the sight and sound of an English Electric Lightning flying low along the runway, then going up vertically, right in front of us, was awesome. The noise, vibration and sight of those twin engines is something that I will never forget.

Being on the common in the late 1950's with my two sisters and a man alerted us to a cow in the next field giving birth to a calf. We looked at the cow and then turned round, to see the man was doing rude stuff to himself! Shock, Horror!
Tipin, l now wish you hadn't asked!

Two nuns swooping down our front steps like ravens, my mum making me show them how well I could read. I "read" "Here Comes Little Noddy" I think it was called.
The thing they didn't know was that I knew the whole story off by heart and couldn't really read very well. I was about 4 I think.
My parents wanted me to go to the Convent school like my older sisters.
Not on their nelly! Scared me to death!
I still remember bits of that story!

Re: Things yousee as a child but never forget.

Before my parents died, I had only one specific baby recollection. When they each passed, a load more came back to me vividly as part of the grieving process.

Those who write about improving memory tend to remind us that everything is stored, but it's the access to the filing system that is the problem.

I think things that have traumatised you as a child stay with you. There are a couple of things I don't like to think of even now to do with dead animals.

I can remember when very small being lifted on shoulders to see the Wakes Week processions
