He proposed in song! Wrote it himself, sung it and played on the guitar. I thought it was a joke, and fell about laughing! Oops.

But I did accept, and 42 years on, we're still happily married.

I don't think I was ever proposed to, it was a mutual decision that we would get married when we were 21. It lasted anyway!

In 1970, my ex husband proposed to me (l can't remember where?) He went out and bought me an engagement ring and it was obvious that his beer expenditure won because the diamond was tiny and l didn't like it at all!
I had to pluck up courage and tell him l wasn't keen on the ring, it was so embarrassing and awkward!
The next day, a girl from work came with me to the jewellers and l exchanged the ring! I paid an extra £6 to get the one l liked, a diamond with sapphires around it!
