What would cause a £1 coin to become magnetised?

I have a £1 coin which will stick to a 1p, a 2p and a 5p but not a 20p or another £1 coin. If I turn the £1 coin over, it repels, just like a magnet. The coins were in an old pair of jeans for several weeks but there was nothing else in the pocket with them.

I'm guessing it's a fake and that's why it wouldn't work in the car park machine yesterday but why would it be magnetised? Any ideas?

Must have iron in it, I think. Perhaps you had it next to a wallet or phone case with a magnetic clasp.
Careful, it might stop your debit cards from working if you keep it in your wallet! .

I have heard of that before Tessa where a bank card can be wiped by coins but that's the thing, there was nothing in there with them. Odd.

Strange that link won't work for me now. Try this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Magic-Tric...-/390673290533

Wow! Thanks Purwell. I think you are right. I might try to sell it.
