Slaps and Pikeys

David Moyes jokingly threatening to slap a female reporter, now Orlando Bloom calling himself a 'Pikey from Kent" and all hell breaks loose.

Am I being insensitive to the sexist and racial overtones ? Or has the world gone bleeding mad ?

I was brought up with my mum's words ringing in my ears, "Sticks and stones may break your bones but names'll never hurt you"
The 'snowflake' generation are apparently so sensitive and vulnerable, poor dears, that they find words more damaging than actions and have to flee bleating to their 'safe spaces' unless their fears and vulnerabilities are 'triggered' by some evil racist/sexist/fascist/heterosexist/homophobe/islamophobe/misogynist/transphobe (delete as appropriate).

I don't know if the world has gone mad but I know that Britain has. Luckily there are still some of us Poms that take no notice.

Jokes have to be funny I guess she didn't find a threat of violence to be funny, you have to select your audience for jokes like that, we often threaten to stab each other in privacy of our own kitchen neither of us would do that to anyone else as they may not find it so funny.

Pikey IMO is an offensive term no matter who says it gypsy, traveller etc are acceptable but pikey no and hasn't been for several generations !

On the other hand, imagine that exchange by Moyes had happened to your sister, friend, daughter, girlfriend, wife, mum, you would laugh if it off has just a little banter. And if you were a bloke who this comment was directed at? Just a little banter?

He was describing himself in an amusing (questionable) way...

He said, "I've come from Kent and I grew up with a lot of, like, freewheeling, cool, interesting characters like that," the actor said, "I certainly wasn't taking a slant at that at all. I'm very respectful."

I love the way the BBC apologised but Bloom didn't!!!

Since the Jonathan Ross scandal they are quick to say sorry, it took that to make them see they couldn't just show anything.

Too many professional victims and complainers.

Those that complain the loudest aren't usually from the section of society that were targeted but some professional body that has a vested interest.
