I have never seen one of those birds except on a photo out tv. Truly a beautiful bird. Are they in the uk

Ive been lucky enough to see one while out walking twice now.. No chance of getting a picture they are too quick and too shy for my casual point and snap style of photography!

In UK the Kingfisher lives on Rivers, Canals, Streams where there are Trees such as Willow Trees.

They are a beautiful bright Blue with Crimson Breast and White throats
They catch fish from their perch at the speed of light.
and aslo catch Tadpoles and shrimp as well
very seldom seen inland.

You are right as they fly past very quickly like a flash of Blue light.

They always remind me of a small Woodpecker.

We have a Woodpecker who must live nearby.
He's often in one of our trees - he's a noisy sod sometimes.
