The underdog

Why do we love the underdog?, I'm sure we've all seen in the news, usually involving a sport, a relatively minor team/side/person taking on a successful major team, or entering a tournament, with little or no hope of winning, yet ,if they do well and progress further, we all seem to want them to do well, is it just a British thing? Or do other countries feel the same, and , if/when they do lose, we always say they can be proud of their achievements, do we all love the underdog, ? ( remember Eddie the eagle),

Do we love the underdog? Eddie the Eagle was an unpleasant little creep, imo.

Re: The underdog

I must admit Primus, I often feel for the underdog more, especially if they have tried hard and it's all gone pear-shaped.

Re: The underdog

I think it happens almost everywhere, but I always think it unfair when some untalented person wins contests by getting the "sympathy" votes. It is very unfair on the ones who really have talent.

Re: The underdog

We all love the underdog but their success never seems to last very long.
