Perfumes that bring back memories.

Do you remember the Max Factor perfumes? They were very popular in my youth.
Primitif - Electrique and Hypnotique.

Not sure about the spellings - my favourite was Hypnotique.

It brings back memories of a foggy night and me waiting to see if my new date would turn up.
It was a real pea souper but he turned up and after I'd got in his car he remarked on my perfume.
I told him it was Hypnotique and he said 'It's hypnotised me'

Funny the things you remember....

When I was 17 or there about. I used to love Tweed then went onto patchouli.

My taste changed as I got older

Re: Perfumes that bring back memories.

An early girlfriend of mine used "Rapture". Since she was also one of my earliest "partners", I can't smell that stuff today without experiencing an instant flashback and a heightening of interest.

Trouble is, I don't think they make it any more. There is a similar one, though, smells identical. Don't know its name, but no matter who is wearing it, young, old, or ancient, I still get the same reaction.

Also, the smell of Brylcreme takes me straight back to the beach, where they put a dispenser in the showers for us to spruce up after surfing. I would have been 13 then. California Poppy is another very evocative one that I relate to my later teens.

But the winner and still champeen is Brut. From my 30s.

I was once asked if I would mind being sniffed...

Luckily it was someone I knew. I was wearing Chanel No5 ( as well as clothes!)..

I felt quite flattered until he said his mother had always worn it!

Hmmm, you didn't suspect a ploy, Cass??

But then, if it was, it was a pretty awkward one! Kinda spoiled the effect, eh.

Re: Perfumes that bring back memories.

I used to love one called 'Pagan' made by Picot - then they changed it by adding musk and it became really sickly - yuk !

My mother liked 'L'aiment' and 'Blue Grass' both of which smelled lovely on her but absolutely foul on me.

My current favourites are 'Shalimar', 'Vent Vert', or 'Dior J'Adore' for night time and CK One for daytime.

I swapped about, it's funny how different perfumes evoke memories though. Helena Rubenstien Heaven Scent reminds me of my first boyfriend

Does anyone remember Coty L'aimant (no idea how to spell it) in the little black bottle with the applicator? I thought that was the height of sophistication
