Do You Think You Have The Makings Of A Forum Moderator?!!

It is a job l would hate but what about you, is it something you would quite fancy doing?
For the purpose of keeping within the rules, it has to be an imaginary forum!
Would you be strict, fairly laid back or something else?!!

Admin, please feel free to pull this thread if it is not acceptable!

It wouldn't suit me at all Art. I would be banning members all over the place.

To be an effective moderator you can't afford to have personal "styles" Artangel. Lack of consistency of moderators tends to break forums.

A site has rules, and the rules are laid out plainly and clearly when you sign up. All a moderator has to do is enforce those rules. If you don't what you have is a subjective website and one that subjectively censors some people's posts whilst allowing others to post unchallenged. I've seen forums die from lack of consistent moderation and where little cliques have formed between mods and certain posters. It's a recipe failure.

I have been a moderator on another forum and simply stayed totally objective, followed the rules, applied the rules to everyone in the same way. That's all you can ask of a mod.

Re: Do You Think You Have The Makings Of A Forum Moderator?!!

I've done it a few times, if the membership have proper rules and are willing to get on together it's easy enough. It very time consuming though as ones I've modded we all had sections to look after and were expected to read every post no matter how inane. So it took a lot of time to do. We also had to cover nights as it was international so took turns to do that.

Don't have time these days so I'd not do it again.
