You're our resident mathematician here, can you tell me this please?

It really pees me off when they show the size of something in litres. Litres to me, is a liquid measurement, and I can't equate it with anything solid.

I am looking a container to hold dog food in and it says it is a 35 ltr container. That means absolutely nothing to me, and I'm fed up with struggling to convert everything I buy, it drives me up the wall.

Now can you tell me how many kilograms a 35 ltr container can hold please?

Well that conversion given by Ruthio relates to water, I litre of water weighs ! Kilo.

It depends on the density of the product.

What is it the thing you are trying to convert?

Oil floats on water, so 35 litres of Cooking Oil weighs less than 35 litres of water.

Don't go addling me brain any further talking about oil floating about!

There is a metal container I have seen, made to store dog food in. It says it is a 35 ltr container.
I don't want to store water in it!
I wanted to know whether it would hold a 12 or 15 kg bag of dry dog food.
If they are selling it specifically as a pet food container, they should bloomin' well say something like "Holds 15 kg of dry food". Not give a liquid measurement.

It's the same with buying deep freezers. Who want to fill them with water? So why do they give me the capacity in litres. If they said a freezer was 4' x 3' I would know if the flippin' thing was going to fit in the space or not!

Ooh, it does get me worked up.

P.S. I hate measurements in mm's too. Drives me nuts!

I will give you an exact answer.

As a rough guide, based on the dried dog food I used, 35 litres will hold 15 kilos no problem.

Typical woman.

Thank you. That is all I needed to know. I have never had a mathematical head, but you'd never have guessed would you. So it is not the slightest bit of use talking to me as if I was another scientist, you need to explain like you would to a five year old where maths are concerned!

And another thing -

Yes, you're bum does look big in that - mine wouldn't.
