Magazine Manipulation

This verges on the immoral
No wonder so many women have eating disorders and low self esteem

Re: Magazine Manipulation

I agree with you, Muddy. But unfortunately morals don't come into it where competition, money and sales are involved.

Re: Magazine Manipulation

I work in households where there are copies of mags such as Closer, Heat, Now, and OK all containing the same more or less identical tripe about `celebrities` and what they get up to. What's the point? Why buy this garbage in the first place and if they must buy it, why not just buy the one?

Re: Magazine Manipulation

I think a lot of the youngsters are so 'Celebrity Hungry' Judd.
They like to know what they are doing, what they wear, who they are going out with, even what they eat . . . . plus the "Dear Marj" pages and all the latest gossip.

It's always been the same, but the magazines are perhaps more competitive than they used to be, and there are also more of them.

Re: Magazine Manipulation

My mother used to buy Woman's Own or Woman's Realm depending on what she could find but never both at the same time. This was in the 60s - don't know if they're still going or not.

Woman, and Woman's Own is Judd. Not positive about Woman's Realm, but I think so.

Re: Magazine Manipulation

The world is not the same now Dolly has gone digital only.

This is as much a shock as when the Australian Woman's Weekly went monthly in 1982.

I was/am devastated.

Re: Magazine Manipulation

There was a time when magazines were not full of advertisements and how to have multiple orgasms!
They had well written articles about Health, Cooking, and family life. and other Countries, Holidays, and Knitting and Sewing patterns An Agony Aunt too. Also at least two good stories one a serial weekly.

Years ago when housewives had very little money and stayed at home all day with small children, magazines like Women's Own, and Woman's Weekly, were appreciated as there was only the radio, no TV till later.

To see and look at a copy of Vouge or Harpers Bazaar was a treat just to look at the beautiful fashions, completely out of , reach, yet some women could actually copy them and make then too

Re: Magazine Manipulation

I just dont understand why people fall for this tripe, most of my male friends find prefer curvy ladies to stick insects and older ladies have much more personality as well.

So who is it that defines what you should be, its not a message from my male friends, is it something that you girls foist upon yourselves. ?

Mind you i sometimes feel that you are sometimes obsessed with youth, and it angers me that so many decent blokes never get look in, because you seem too want a toy boy as an accessory too adorn your latest outfit.

I like ladies to be themselves, you are still attractive as you age.

Re: Magazine Manipulation

I never buy those mags, never have done, I do sometimes flick through them in my hair dressers, but I prefer mags with fictional stories in them, like People's Friend.
The glossies are vastly over priced anyway.
