Human resource/ recruting twits

Imagine you are startingjust out on your career.
You've done the diploma, worked casually in the industry for a year to get experience and put in your first application for permanent part time work to pay your way through full time Uni.

Wow..you get a call back the same day as your interview.
They are impressed and putting a "package" together for a co ordinators role!!..(This is in school after care program)

Flattering..a boost to your self esteem..certainly .

The contract arrives next day!

Split shift

7am to 9am at a school that requires 1 hour travel to get there.
go home..another hour on the train.

come back for a 3pm to 6.30 PM shift.

For the notoriously minimum wages in child care...OH a 1/2 hour split shift allowance is also paid.

You told them you'd be studying full time.
You told them you didn't have a car.

My Daughter was so excited and happy to be offered a position with this company..
She actually applied for a locally based 3-6 pm assistants job that she could work around her Uni hours

Now she's depressed..She can't do these hours and go to Uni. She'd be getting up at 5.30am..and with the split shift not finishing her work day until 7pm.

She's worried that if she refuses this unlooked for "opportunity" they won't consider her for the position she actually applied for.

What were they thinking?
Sure the co coordinators role would be great experience for her future Bachelor of primary education or a step to get a better paid position in the future.

Seems to me that this job is for someone local that is at home during the day.

They want the contract signed this week for a monday training start.

She's got another interview for a council day care placement on Friday with hours she can work around he Uni hours, much better hourly rate, paid study leave, proper career path etc.

Is a bird in hand better than two in the bush?

You reckon that if she says no..they might have just been trying to fill a role they needed filled fast and will take the refusal on the chin and offer her something more reasonable to her needs..like a part time assistants job..they do have vacancies for these part time jobs.

Re: Human resource/ recruting twits

She needs email them and explain her situation emphasising that she would love to work for the company, it maybe they just haven't thought it through.

Encourage her to explore all opportunities though remind her companies would be lucky to have her. My daughter worked for Sainsbury supermarket through uni on the salad bar. They were very flexible and supportive.

Tell her good luck from me
