Black Friday: No wonder retailers wanted to make the name "Black Friday" mean something positive. And, to them, the Friday after Thanksgiving is a very profitable day. To compensate, they decided to follow the adage, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."They used the name to reflect their success. Accountants use black to signify profit when recording each day's book entries. Red is used to mean loss. Therefore, Black Friday means profitable Friday to retailing*and to the economy.

Gordon Bennett ! Why on earth are we copying the Yanks ?I'm so fed up with rubbish being imported from the Americans.
We used to have one night per year on October 31st. which was called 'Mischief Night', then the Yanks got hold of it and commercialised it to the max with 'trick or treat' and so the daft Brits thought Yippee let's make some more money ! Now Hallowe'en has taken on a far more sinister form with 'nasty' clowns leaping out on people in the dark and sometimes robbing innocent elderly folk ! I dare say a lot of this has been copied from videos that have been included on YouTube on the internet.
Why do we always seem to copy what the Americans do ? Don't we have any original thoughts ?
