Annoying words .

COULD
As in .....
I could eat ( but I don't want to seem uncool )
In response to do you want lunch ?
I could live here .( but I would rather live somewhere else)
In response to do you like this house ?

For the love of Mick what's wrong with a straight answer ?

Jesus ! Talk about tits in a tangle over nothing.

To me, it is pretty clear
"I could eat (if you wish) but I'm not really fussed on the idea."
Likewise with the house - pretty clear to most people.

Re: Annoying words .

I could say you have a way with words .
( but I don't because it's obvious you haven't and it will be classed as too personal )
COULD suggests doubt without decision .
It puts the onus on the other party to make the decision .
It's wishy washy .
The unannoying answer is yes / no I would like /not like lunch .

'I will', when I wish someone 'have a nice holiday'. I would actually prefer a 'thank you.'

Infuriates me no end. Guilty culprits are my best female friend and also my brother.

Combination of words drives me a bit bonkers, suck it and see, it's said about all sorts of things you really wouldn't want to suck or see, horrible saying IMO .

Re: Annoying words .

I often see a nice house in a nice place & say I could live here.

Meaning how nice it is and if I wasn't happy where I was I would quite like to live there.

What other way is there to say it?

To could or not to could, that is the question.
