Are you superstitious?

Do you refuse to walk under ladders, not seat 13 at the table, think you will have seven years bad luck if you break a mirror etc?

I make a point of walking under a ladder, unless I am likely to get something dropped on my head. When my family is all assembled we are 13 at the table.

My maternal Grandmother was a sensible, no nonsense Northerner, but if she ever broke a mirror she would throw a pinch of salt over her shoulder!

No, I'm not superstitious at all.

Like you though, Qetta, when walking under a ladder I will look up to make sure it's safe but for no other reason.

I have seen people walking into the road to avoid walking under a ladder when there was no danger from above!

Re: Are you superstitious?

I suppose I must be - don't put new shoes on the table (inherited from my mother). Throw spilt salt over my shoulder. If I see only one magpie then must say 'Hello Mr. Magpie three times to avoid bad luck'. However, broken mirror doesn't bother me. Actually, just realised, all my superstitions were inherited from my mother!!

I hadn't come across that one before; I often see just one magpie!

Re: Are you superstitious?

I can say 'hello Mr. Magpie' several times in a day which is so stupid but it is obviously so ingrained I dare not do it - just in case

Re: Are you superstitious?

I am extremely superstitious (but it doesn't rule my life) - don't know where I get it from as neither of my parents were superstitious.

Re: Are you superstitious?

I'm not superstitious - all the things that are supposed to be superstitious I meet head on. I wonder if one day something will get me I have never seen a ghost either
