Another question

I wish Azz hadn't done away with our Questions sections, because I keep wanting to know things!

Does anyone know why they always say "Jets were 'scrambled'?
Why don't they just say the jets took off, why 'scrambled?'

Seems a very silly expression to me when referring to planes and not eggs!

Maybe cos it was always a scramble to get the planes into the air before they were destroyed on the tarmac.

Probably dates back to WW2, Mups, when squadrons were 'scrambled' - perhaps it was just the pilots general rush/scramble to get the planes off the ground in a hurry!! Interesting point though.

They don't 'scramble' Police cars, or Ambulances when in a rush, do they?

The police never move that fast. Firefighters certainly do though. My son was a London Firefighter for 32 years. I've seen Green Watch in action many times.

Which nicely leads me to the fact that I am now gonna watch Question Time on BBC1.
I doubt I will get any honest answers there about Brexit and other stuff either!

It was certainly a scramble to get them out on the road and on their way asap. A bit like when we have the family here for a meal and I shout " Come and get it!" I nearly get killed in the scramble to be first to the table.
