Re: Living or existing ?

Hmm - nice one, Muddy !

Living:- waking up each day glad to be still here. Enjoying what I have, what I do, what I can see, smell and touch. Respecting nature. The sense of wonder/fun/joy when I see a rainbow, stroke a cat, hear the birds singing, talk to a friend. Caring and sharing things with neighbours/friends/colleagues. Having a happy heart, feeling contented and fullfilled.
I love life and live it to the full.

Existing: none of the above!

Re: Living or existing ?

When my body is no longer exciting to live in I feel that would be existing .

My thoughts go to a lovely lady who is in her 90's , just sits in a chair , unable to do anything for herself , she tells me she no longer wants to be here , wishes she could go home . Each time I visit I feel sad that she is still here and have promised to wave her goodbye when she finally is able to leave . Bless her , she is just existing and it's hard for her , long lonely days sleeping and waking .

Re: Living or existing ?

'Living' is having sufficient things to meet ones needs and the ability to cope with life from a physical/mental perspective.

'Existing' is when you don't have those things .

That's so sad Susan she's lucky to have you though. And I think you hit nail on the head with your post.

Re: Living or existing ?

Living is waking up and looking forward to the day ahead, existing is waking up and wishing you hadnīt. Living is having hope, existing is having no hope.

Re: Living or existing ?

In a literal sense then inanimate objects only exist, whereby animate objects both exist and live.
Colloquially, however, it's just a frame of mind.

Re: Living or existing ?

Good post Barry...

Only you can make the decision to live or exist...
Where there is life there is always hope but don't expect someone else to find it for you, they have their own problems.
