What? No Internet.

Does anyone realise that some kids have grown up not knowing what it is like to live without the internet?

We wonder why Pubs,Dance Halls,Social clubs etc are disappearing, is it because people are more inclined to stay in and surf the internet with a glass of wine in one hand and a sarnie on the desk?

Do you every venture out into the big wide world to Dances, Pubs, Social clubs etc or are you glued to the internet like I have been this morning?

Ah! The good old days, no mobile phones, no internet, very few programs on TV but lots more socialising going on in the street.

Re: What? No Internet.

I stopped going to the dancing in my late teens when Bible John was around in Glasgow murdering young women!! I started dating and stuck to bars and clubs after that with the boyfriend of the day

I think the net has taken over peoples lives, especially the young folk and the worrying thing is - who they meet on the net!

Excellent post, AB!

Take care.

I am really glad the Internet and mobile phones weren't around when my kids were growing up in the 70s/80s! I am sure the middle one would have met someone undesirable on-line and gone to meet him unbeknown to us! The lovely man she married was the only chap she ever dared bring home!

Re: What? No Internet.

When I was young we always went dancing at the weekend ( sometimes mid-week too), it was a great way to get out of shyness and meet new People. Making contact on the internet is not the same as face to face and while it is a good thing it's important to know who your kids are talking too, there are a lot of weirdo's out there and you never really know who you are dealing with. Like Qetta I'm glad it wasn't there when my two were growing up.

AB, I've got to comment on that Graphic: that looks like the ubiquitous "Kilroy was here" drawing from WWII that at one time you saw scrawled everywhere? Anyone else old enough to remember that ... think it was a Yankee troop thing ...

DM, there are disputes as to where Kilroy/Chad/Mr Foo originated from.

The best one that I saw which appeared in newly build public toilets and which could be added to anything was:-

Now my heart is full of Joy, I was here before Kilroy.

The next day brought:-

Wipe that smile from off you face,
Kilroy built the blooming place.

I remember being at a trade union meeting in the 70's and I had to use the toilet, this was scrawled on the wall:
After a long sitting the motion was passed and the matter dropped.
