Jean Alexander

It has just been announced that Jean Alexander, famous for playing the role of Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street and Auntie Wainright in Last of the Summer Wine has passed away. She was 90 years old.

She was wonderful!
I'll always remember her saying in Coronation street.....Eggs...nature's one and only pre-packed convenience food and he (Stan) doesn't like 'em !

If somebody had asked me how long ago she left Coronation street I would have said " about 10-12 years", but would never have thought it is almost 30 years. She played Hilda so well that, even when she was no longer there, I always felt she was still part of the street and, for many of us she always will be.

I never watch Corrie these days, probably haven't seen it for about twenty years but Hilda is the main character I would always associate with it most. TBH I wasn't aware she still alive until this morning.
