Which trait do you consider to be important for a lasting friendship

My overriding indispensable quality that I require in order for an acquaintance to be considered a friend is Loyalty!
How about you ?

For someone to be considered a friend of mine they would need to be honest and never ever under any circumstance go behind my back and talk about my business....Thats one thing I really dont like,I dont do it so dont expect my friends to do it.

I suppose loyalty can be compromised.
I had a friend that became a nuisance when he hit the magic '5 pints'
Our friendship suffered each time I removed him from harm or prevented harm.
On one occasion I didn't and he got a good slap off a guy.

I was accused of being disloyal......I thought he abused my loyalty.

Yes indeed Terry, a very thin line ... Who was first responsible for being disloyal, very hard to say in most circumstances

I think, or I'd hope that my nearest and dearest would think of me as being loyal.

It's very important.

Loyalty is wrong if it prevents you reporting a crime if a relative or friend is involved.

I disagree, it all depends on the crime and reasons behind it, surely?

If not, I'd question your loyalty.
