Chimineas

Sorry, wasn't sure where to put this, but maybe someone can advise me: I'm wanting to buy a chiminea as a present but the clay ones which look great are prone to cracking - and the cast iron ones will rust in time. I want to get one with a grill as well, but just don't know which type is likely to last longer. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Re: Chimineas

I've had a clay one for years Eccles. I was told to put a depth of sand in the bottom first and to start with very small fires which I did and it shows no sign of cracking...yet. Oh and store it somewhere dry over the winter period.

EZ, can you remember where you bought it from or what make it is? I've seen plenty on line but if yours hasn't cracked it might be a better model.

Re: Chimineas

It came from a local garden centre down in Dorset. On line may be a problem should it crack as you may have no comeback unless it comes from a reputable company. Also I personally would avoid a cast iron one as they do discolour quickly and are extremely heavy should you wish to reposition it later on.

Re: Chimineas

OK, thanks for the help - clay it is! And I've looked up how to cure them beforehand,
