Bats

Hi

Any experts on here know about bats?

My neighbours to one side have bat boxes on their houses, I don't.

Yesterday I went to Hospital, nothing on my front porch when I left at 10 ish in the morning, a dead bat right in front of the door when I returned.

Out early this Morning and returned. not a bat in sight.

Just been to the door, the Postman, another dead bat on the outside doormat.

Any ideas?

Re: Bats

Sorry I`m no expert but how ironic. I was only commenting to a friend earlier that I have not seen a bat this year. Last year several flitted over the pond.

Re: Bats

It could be an infectious agent, they cluster together and it means that they could be disease ridden.

Re: Bats

It's odd for them to be about in the daytime. Could it be a local cat caught them in the night and has left them as a gift for you?

Re: Bats

I have had bats in my garden for 30 years but never found a dead one. Cats would have to be very good to catch one as they are on the wing so much.
I would ask your neighbours if they have seen any dead ones as they could be being poisoned by something. It is illegal to kill them but there is something a bit suspect about finding 2 dead in the same place. It may need to be reported so tell your neighbour about your finds.

Re: Bats

Don't know if you might find some answers on here Swimmy.
It seems it wise to wear gloves before handling any, so be careful how you clean up.
