Re: smart meters

Yes I am on one. They dont help save you money but you can have a device which shows how much you are using and cut down yourself,Also you dont have to have to have your meter read , it is done automatically , but you can check yourself if you wish

Re: smart meters

Many thanks for your prompt response Deylon.
I read on the blurb on here that they want to use my internet connection, has that caused any problems?

Re: smart meters

In a flat we can't have one, it depends where your meter is, they have to put it close to the meter and ours is down stairs too far away.

Re: smart meters

I refuse to have one, if you change suppliers the meter may not be compatible with the new supplier as many people have found so it will be useless.

I read my own meter and can 'generate an illusory bill' any time I choose to keep an eye on usage.

The whole concept of smart meters for many of us is a farce, who uses more electricity than they require or needs to be told to switch lights off when not in use. I don't need to watch a meter dial to tell me to do this it is second nature.
It is people on high incomes who don't worry about unnecessary power usage and high bills and a smart meter is unlikely to change their behavior.
Only those who do not live in the real world and of course the power companies could have come up with such a silly idea as smart meters .

Those with smart meters are also open to manipulation by the power companies who will use them to their advantage not ours . They will have the ability to alter the tariff at various times of the day. That could have some benefits but it could also mean that at 'peak times' like 4mp-7pm the costs of power could be very high .

Re: smart meters

I have refused to have to too Meg.
These meters will work out in their favour, not ours, else they wouldn't be fitting them.

Re: smart meters

I quite lik the idea of not needing to go down stairs to the meter cupboard when I want to read the meter, also I believe they show individual items using power, I'm always interested in what uses what.

Re: smart meters

It honestly doesn't bother me reading my meters. It takes a matter of minutes, that's all. For years I have read my gas, electric, and water meters so as to get accurate bills. I won't pay estimated ones.
