Which Room?

Which room in your home are you most likely to use and congregate with family and friends? - presume not the Bathroom!

My lovely Gran had a Parlour (not posh) ... Table and chairs, cupboards, and a huge black Range. Very rarely went into her 'Best Room'!
(She would allow me ONE spoonful of Condensed Milk, I loved it). Never buy it now, as I know I would want to gobble it all up! But to this day I can still smell it - Mmmmmm

Re: Which Room?

It tends to be the lounge but everyone goes wherever they want to.
Family and some friends tend to head for my study and the computers.
Some friends head for the lounge where the drinks cabinet is and some head for the kitchen where they tend to help themselves to food.

Re: Which Room?

It's the lounge and sometimes the kitchen in our house.

I remember when I was a child we always had a "best room" ........ it was very rarely used, only on special occasions

Re: Which Room?

I remember `the best room` children were not allowed.

And then one day I was given the honour at some house I forget now-the smell of damp and moth balls could take me back.

But I suppose it served a purpose-who knows when the Queen would be passing and fancied dropping in for a cuppa?

None if I can help it ,
I try hard to be a hermit and dissuade people from coming to my house at all (although close family can't be excluded ).
Visitors use my kitchen and sitting room .

The living room. I remember the parlor at my Grandmas ... very formal, only time I remember it being used was when my Grandpas viewing was held ... didn't use funeral parlors back in those days. First time I had ever seen a dead person.

Gosh Dandysmom, I remember the same at my Grandmas. I remember lots of people calling and going into the parlour to see my Grandad. First dead person I had seen as well. For a long time after I could remember the smell, which was probably embalming fluid.

If anyone calls we usually end up in the kitchen, but if there is more than 2 people then its an overspill into the livingroom...only got a very tiny kitchen!
