Shouting to be understood

I've never quite got why some Brits speak louder at foriegn speakers it's not like increasing volume will make them understand but at weekend a lady with very little English started yelling over the locked gate at the caravan park, I was on the decking telling dogs to be quiet they didn't need to yell back she kept yelling something so I got my sticks and decended the steps to try and see what she wanted. Could just make out she wanted directions but I don't know the area well enough to help, we rarely do much more than walk the footpaths around the site when we are there. So I said I'm sorry I don't know the area, minutes later I find myself almost yelling I don't know the area.

Obviously yelling doesn't work but is natural when you are speaking different languages

It's just the British way when dealing with Johnny Foreigner Julie, you just speak loud so that they understand you, and if they don't then speak even louder and wave your arms until they do, it's how we built an empire...

Clumsy, don't forget those Brits that think a Spaniard will understand if they shout "UNO BEERO" for example.
Just put an 'o' on the end and shout.

Haha, yes, we hear some really weird stuff, but the ones I despise are those Brits who having failed to make themselves understood are those, and there are many, who then retort to saying such things as "bloody wops, theyīd still be riding donkeys if it wasnīt for us, they want our money, they can speak English, they just donīt want to". Iīm sure you too have come across them. There are still many Brits who think they rule the world.

Oh dear wishing I hadn't said anything now, I just thought it was a funny incident and we were in middle of Sussex countryside when it happened.

Why would you wish you hadnīt said anything Julie? Quite often this kind of thing is funny, but since we donīt live in a sugar plum fairy world it isnīt always funny.
