As long as the first and last letter of the word is in its correct position, you can position the middle letters in any order and still make sence of it. Our eyes just glance at the first and last letters of a word.
(Makes you wonder why we bother to learn to spell)! LOL

This is only possible if you understand the language in the first place. You do it by guessing what the word should be in context with the rest of the message and your brain takes over and corrects the written mistake without you knowing it. However, it will obviously mean nothing if you never learnt to read and have knowledge of the language in the first place.
