Science Museum charges
Have received the following email:
Dear Geoff,
Families might soon be priced out of visiting the popular children’s “Launchpad” galleries at the Science Museum in London. The galleries are being ‘re-launched’ at the end of the summer with a hefty entrance charge and a new oil company sponsor.
38 Degrees member Drew, a science student, thinks that the Launchpad should stay free and not answer to big business so he’s started a campaign to stop the plans.
The Launchpad has been free to enter for years. How many future scientists and engineers would we lose if children didn’t have free access to this inspiring place? The changes aren’t due to start till the end of summer. If enough of us demand that museum bosses drop their plans, we could persuade them to keep the exhibits free for all children.
If you think that the science museum should be for everyone, please sign the petition. It takes about a minute:

Here’s what Drew says:
“As big fans of science education, we are deeply saddened to hear that the popular Launchpad gallery is to be relaunched not just with sponsorship from an oil company, but an entrance charge too.
As research at King’s College and the Wellcome Trust emphasise, the British public are keen consumers of our amazing scientific culture, but also there are worrying divides in terms of which economic groups are most likely to engage. Price tags on science museum galleries will only exacerbate such social division."
