Scratch Cards

Do you ever buy them?

I do get one occasionally, if the mood takes me.
I bought one with my shopping Thursday and scratched it off Friday when I got back from the vets, and to me delight I had won £40. I had to look three times to make sure.
I was chuffed to bits.

Anyone else had any wins?

Re: Scratch Cards

No don't buy them, they are a con, a guaranteed losing proposition in terms of odds, and thus essentially just another stealth tax on the . . . well on those who don't understand basic odds. They shoudl really be banned.

I did say I get one OCCASIONALLY Realist.
I really don't know how your family cope with such a bundle of fun as you.

Re: Scratch Cards

I get one very occasionally when I'm feeling lucky. I never am though. A friend of mine won £5,000 a few years ago.

Like all forms of addictive gambling they should indeed be banned.
I never gamble and never have done...no scratch cards, lottery tickets, raffle tickets, horses, dogs, casinos etc.
In all forms of gambling there is only one winner, and it isn't the punter.
I have know people who have destroyed their lives and families with gambling and in all cases it started off simply with a small win on a scratch card or horse race.
It is not an innocent pastime.

Re: Scratch Cards

I'm like you Mups, I buy them occasionally, about 2 years ago I won £40, but really don"t have a lot of luck with them.
So TBH don"t really bother in fact, when I stand waiting to pay they are there in front of me , but just don"t see them [if that makes sense.]

Actually Malcolm , I quite like gambling, probably why I always watch the big meetings on TV and have a small wager.
Probably why I am off to Vegas for a week in September.
BUT and it is a big BUT, I always gamble within my means, and know when to stop. Don"t be quite so censorious.

Re: Scratch Cards

My sister always used to buy a scratch card when she bought petrol. Once she won about £600 but she must have paid out more than that in scratch cards and Lottery bets over time?

Gosh, I can see I am a sinner of the worst degree.
I must repent by giving my 40 quid back - not.
