The main reason I suppose is habit. I look in most days but don't often post.

But more specifically, I was wondering what created the need to chat to other people. Many have circles of family and friends, which in pre-internet days would be our source of socialising. Some may feel lonely and find a forum sociable. Some may be housebound so take to the internet to communicate with others. Some may be actively looking to make real life friends. Some may like being able to be anonymous in online conversations.
There could be lots of reasons, and I was just curious if any stood out for some people.
I can't actually remember why I joined, but I think someone pointed me in this direction once. I sometimes find it's a place I don't want to be so take a break from it. So far I have tended to venture back in after a while, and I guess I have sometimes wondered why.
