Such Very Sad News

Alas, after a very short illness, my desktop computer has died. It has not been well lately as you would expect of a 50 year old machine (in dog years) but this morning the motherboard finally gave up and expired in a terminal blue screen.

Despite expecting the worst for some time the shock of its passing has left me bereft. I have spent the day in a cloud of sadness transferring all my current files from the back up to my laptop so that life can stumble on in some semblance of normality .

All is not completely lost because some of the organs can be transplanted to a new machine when I can face the task of looking for a replacement.

This is not how I wanted to celebrate the birthday of her majesty the Queen of Australia, may god bless her with his noodly appendage, but sometimes you have to take the smooth with the crunchy. I shall put on a brave face and tablet on.

Don't be sad Bruce, your PC, beautifully photographed in Noms post, may have been trying to tell you that you need to bring a new life into your house.......because it will bring you great happiness in the future. Try to be brave

How does Nom get such suitable pics for the threads?

My commiserations Bruce, you gave it a good life and it served you well all these years.

May it rest in peace in the scrapyard.

Boot Into Safe Mode: If your computer is blue-screening every time you turn it on, try booting into safe mode. In safe mode, Windows loads only the essential drivers. If a driver you've installed is causing Windows to blue screen, it shouldn't do so in safe mode. You can work on fixing the problem from safe mode.
Startup using Last Known Good Configuration

If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. ...
If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

Do you have big bins for E-Waste in England? Some of the bits and bytes could be recycled.
