Going On The Defensive?

Do you think people go on the defensive more on forums and jump to conclusions more so, than they do in real life?
If you agree, why do you think this is so? Or do l just imagine that they seem to?!

Re: Going On The Defensive?

I think often replies are more about what was perceived than actually said.
Communication is only around 5% verbal, so without facial expression, tone, body language, eye contact and so on you are relying entirely on the written word and how its taken may not always be what was intended by the author. Its hard sometimes to get things across accurately and can get distorted dependent on the readers dispostion.

I think it's because tone of voice and facial expression are missing from forums.
There are bound to be misunderstandings sometimes...

It's a fact that the lack of body language and tone of voice can lead to many misunderstandings...

Of course they do. As others have said, communication online is very different to that in real life as the written word lacks the nuances of direct speech and expression.

Sucks that my replies arent visible and by the time they are they are no longer relevant as others have then said the same thing.
