I'm Garn Darn The Pub.

To have a couple of beers and think about all the poor buggers who never made it off the beach 76 years ago today.

Dunkirk or Normandy? One of my Uncles was captured at Dunkirk, another was too busy in the Med on air sea rescue/covert ops? to have been at Normandy. But fear not my father was nice and sound in Rhodesia and never saw active service. Odd how he won WW2 -he was ill in the head

Dosn't matter which one, they all deserve a mention.

thats sad about your Dad.

I had an Uncle who was captured and worked on the Burmese railway. He was a broken man when he got home, and sadly didn't survive much after.

There are very few remaining now who remember their treatment by the Japanese. I used to know a couple of chaps who thought nuking them was not enough.

Re: I'm Garn Darn The Pub.

I used to confuse Japanese students of English who thought they were perfect with a bit of Aussie slang. "It's bloody hot, mate. I'm goan down to the rubbity (rubbity dub = pub) for a coldy." Worked every time.
