Back to being a volunteer!
When I popped into my library yesterday I was disappointed to learn that they'd started the computer classes (helping people access the council's website), without me. They hadn't even acknowledged my application!So yesterday I fired off an email, saying how hurt and disappointed I was and well, my persistence has paid off. CAB rang me just now and they are sending forms for references, I shall go to the Town Hall on Monday for my checks, and I have an induction with them at 2 on Tuesday.
You know my love of computers, and I always enjoy helping other people, so I'm looking forward to getting involved again. It's only 2 hours of my time a week, depending on how many shifts they want from each volunteer.

Apart from the work I do with the dog rescue my wife and I founded, and some occasional work with The Starlight Foundation, I volunteer one day a week as a Lock Keeper on the Grand Union Canal. I love the history of our canals and really enjoy being part of keeping the canal life tradition going!This where I am based:
I'd heartily recommend volunteering. It keeps me physically and mentally active (although on some quiet days it's like "Last of the Summer Wine" with boats).
