A word I had never heard of ....

Had to look this one up while reading a book .

Ichor

In Greek mythology, Ichor (/ˈaɪkər/ or /ˈɪkər/; (Ancient Greek) is the ethereal golden fluid that is the blood of the gods and/or immortals.

Yer and I have gallons of it

Plus I also have two of those horse heads, one made of iron in the garden and another in the conservatory in white, which weighs a ton and was lugged home in better times during a moment of insanity, from a steep climb in a Greek Island.

Anybody else buy the strangest of things on holiday?

Perhaps it is connected to Itchenor, where wealth runs like liquid gold.

Had to look it up as family was born there.

Itchenor is the derivation of the
personal name of Icca and Ora meaning
a bank or margin.
A small village on Chichester Harbour
popular with yachtsmen and retaining
much of its charm through strict
building regulations.
The fishermens cottages in The Street
retain much of their original appear-
ance though most have been modernised.

Noted that one , terraced and just a few feet wide sold for £1,000,000.

The horse head in the garden, just cannot decide which way to face it.

Re: A word I had never heard of ....

Sometimes I come across new or unfamiliar words in a book, one of the advantages of an ereader is that you can just tap the word and get a definition of it.

A year or so ago I read some Kerry Greenwood novels about Phryne Fisher and her escapades. I have never had to look up so many words in my life; the author (a lawyer BTW) seemed to delight in using obscure adjectives.

I think in one book I looked up nearly 10 words whereas in the normal course of events it would be one word every couple of books. They weren't a bad read all the same.

I would have bought those as well, but then I love horses.

Strangest thing I bought on holiday was a large pottery frog, strange because I don't collect frogs.

I have heard it too in Anne McCaffreys Dragon books, she calls the blood in a dragons body as ichor.
