Brilliant answer for those unwanted phone calls ....

This is in a Peter James novel I'm reading at the mo. Ok, it's part of the story line but I'm adopting it to get rid of those calls

The guy gets an unwanted call.

Phone rings....

Hello?

Hello there. My name is.......and I'm calling to ......blah blah

I think you have the wrong number.

We are inviting you to ...... blah blah

Excuse me, are you aware this is a crime scene?

A crime scene?

I need your name, address, date of birth and your connection with the murder victim. Are you willing to come voluntarily to ..???... police station to make a statement?

In the book, there was a sudden silence before the caller hung up.

I'm sure that would happen in real life too.
Can't wait to try it out

I heard that one some time ago, I tried it a couple of times.
The caller got quiet confused, and tried to continue with their script.
I had my wife in stitches.

Most cold callers I get always end up saying 'Do you want to save money?'
So I reply no, not particularly, I've got loads of money but it's time I'm short of. They don't expect this response and have not been taught how to respond. There is usually a short pause before they hang up the phone.

My sister had a heavy breathing and very suggestive call from man once, when he finished (talking) she said, "Sorry, I'm a bit deaf, can you repeat that please?"
She's got hearing aids now. Just in case...

Re: Brilliant answer for those unwanted phone calls ....

As others have pointed out its as old as the hills but I must say I can see possibilities with pursuing the 'I think you have a wrong number' line.

The problem is I get so few of these calls it may take ages before I can try it out but I will. It would be interesting tohear how the Microsoft technicians cope with someone insisting that they have a wrong number.
