More Political Correctness

I saw a bit in Sundays paper about the Equality Act of 2010.
Apparently it is against the law to discriminate against someone on the grounds of their age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and disability, but now a judge who specialises in employment law is suggesting the legislation be extended to those of "Non ideal Weight."
In other words - fat.

The journalist suggests that in todays super-sensitive workplace, it's probably best to say nothing at all at work.

It's the way they invent these new politically correct names that make me smile. Are we not even allowed to say the word 'Obese' any more?

Try joining the army- navy or air force at the age of 71 years old. Then tell me about age discrimination.

That reminds me of a stand-up comedian (can't remember who) who came up with this line:

Man makes a joke about a fat woman relating to her 'generous proportions'.

Fat woman: "You're FATTIST".

Man: "No. You're FATTEST".

Never mind political correctness I seem to get in trouble by just opening my mouth (or typing stuff). People tend not to see what I really meant to put across. Getting on my t*** a bit to be honest with you. Still the solution lies with me undoubtedly.

In most jobs why would weight be a factor?

I can understand if you are a model or have to crawl into small spaces but to man the phone or serve at a till I dont see why it should be an issue.

The best person for the job regardless of creed colour weight age or gender. That way we might actually get proper service and have sensible people in employment.

I agree Cass. As you say, in most jobs I wouldn't have thought a person's weight relevant.
It was the peculiar phrases that they are trying to make us use that amused me.

Clumsy, l agree!
It is a painful process to say or write anything these days! After composing words, you have analyse, scrutinise them, take them away, put them back. Perhaps, regurgitate them until you have some semblance of what you really want to say, without being offensive or upsetting people!!
Cor, l'm exhausted now!!

But surely we can still joke about thin, straight, white, male Christians, can't we?
