Back at work, a few views of my home from home until the end of the year.

Piotrków Trybunalski

Smack bang in the middle of Poland, excellent transport to the Ukraine and further East.

The centre is beautiful, like Italy, the rest is a legacy to Communism.

Completely destroyed and replaced by miles and miles of flats, with a very rigid class system.

Forced movement of workers, absolutely no choice, no work, you did not get paid, you were moved at gunpoint.

If you were a member of the Communist Party, you got a better flat.

If you attended Communist Party Meetings, you got a better one.

If you were a Communist and a Member of the Workers Committee, you got an even better one, like a luxury apartment.

No individual choice at all, comply or else.

Such is the reality of Communism.

In spite of what UJ says, you had to carry ID at all times, something that still applies to this day.

In order to get any accommodation, you had to have a Workers Card, stamped every Month, if you did not comply, it was not stamped.

You lost your accommodation.

That is the reality of the Socialist Dream, a job for everyone and accommodation for everyone.

Since the downfall of Communism, they have moved on, but the old communists are still in control, they keep their accommodation.

The miles and miles of flats have been upgraded, but only by selling some of them off to pay for it.

One and two are what you get as Communist Party Members.

Massive apartments, balconies, the very best, irrespective of family size.

Three is what you get if you are not a Communist Party Member, no balcony and absolutely tiny, shared heating, no soundproofing, a nightmare.

The internal decor is brown, sprayed Asbestos.

I have a sister who loves short breaks in Poland, never been myself but hope to in the future.
The flats look really nice now, a lot different to the old, grey, miserable looking things we've seen on tv at times.
Enjoy your stay, although I understand it's work related.

Looks a bit bleak Gibbs at least the summer is coming which should make it look brighter

The hell that is the Ukraine.

Merkel wants to admit them, they earn less than a fifth of what the Polish do.

Any bets on where they will be coming.

I am not Xenophobic, I genuinely feel for them, but the solution to the problem is not to let them all come here with our systems, we just cannot afford it.

The Ukraine is also completely corrupt.

I can buy an Assault Rifle there for £200, complete with ammo.

I can get it across into Belarus for £20 no questions asked.

We may whine about the Polish, but trust me, their Border Controls make ours look like Noddy and Big Ears.
