Table Manners - or lack of them !

During several recent visits to local restaurants and pubs, I have nearly put off my food as a result of people stuffing their faces by any means. Their manners are appalling in some cases

Perhaps I am being too critical, but as a youth, my parents taught me right from wrong at the table?

Dobra a lot of families don't seem to sit around a table to eat together these days so it is not surprising some children don't learn table manners.

They should have learned to use chopsticks - far more civilised.

Perhaps we should be grateful.
The 'at table' requirements for Muslims are far more onerous than for most of us.

For starters, one must not even sit at a table at which alcohol is being consumed.

You go out to dinner after work with a bunch from work.
Eight or ten sit around a table. One couple orders a bottle of wine.
Off you go !

There may be some here who would order the plonk just for fun ?

We did not sit at a table to eat our meals but there were occasions where we did . If we were out for a meal or at other peoples houses for instance .
This has not affected my table manners in any way . I am possibly more aware of them as a result due to it being a rare occurance .
I really do not like a lack of table manners and I find it really annoying .

When I was growing up meals were always taken at the table. I just followed on the same lines with my own son, meals were at the table, even now, a snack or sandwich may be eaten whilst watching TV but thatīs all, main meals are eaten at the table. I think good table manners are still quite important.

Not always true. We have eaten with muslim friends both at home and in restaurants, not one has ever left because someone else had a glass of wine or a beer. Many muslims drink alcohol, hypocritical, okay, but drink alcohol they certainly do.

I am the youngest of three. My sisters and I had the job of 'laying the table' for our meals. Before any place settings or cutlery went on the table, the first thing that did was an empty milk bottle with a bamboo cane inside. If any of us misbehaved at the dining table, we received a sharp rap across the knuckles from either George or 'Dragon'.

All these rich people.........we didn't have a table

On a serious note....I hate to see what people have in their mouth and hear every single chomp....I dislike people leaning across me to get something, just ask and I'll pass it to you.....my Ex B-I-L leans over his food, his face inches from his plate and shovels. The amount of times I've been tempted to place my hand on the back of his head and push down
