First the Doctors now the Teachers

Hospitals and Schools ~ Doctors and Teachers, surely, are the backbone of a civilised society.
One public service strike is unfortunate two is just ridiculous...

Who's next I wonder?
Where will it end?
There's talk of a General Strike and mass demonstrations, it's all getting scary.

The Tories don't care about public services. Private business is all they believe in that's why they are forcing all schools to become academies and selling it as giving power to schools and parents, when in fact it does the opposite. Who owns the school buildings and grounds at the moment - the councils, but there will be no compensation when they are given to whatever academy chain steps in. This started with Thatcher and will be taken to the logical conclusion I suppose - you pays yer money for yer services donch'a - not got the right fire sign on your wall so the fire doesn't get put out. As IDS recently said when he apparently developed a conscience, they don't care about the people (should that be peasants) who don't vote for them.

I think it was Labour under Tony Blair who started to introduce academies under the Learning and Skills Act 2000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_(English_school) Sorry link does not seem to work. I will try again.

Yes it was. But Tory Blair wasn't exactly a Labour leader was he. Went to check things out with Mags when he got elected.

I don't think so. They're charities aren't they? Well Eton is anyway - for tax purposes.

Isn't that convenient? We are all in it together, grease the wheels on the tumbrils.
