Healthy kids?

I saw a young school girl yesterday coming out of a shop on her way to school with a huge bag of sweets and a can of red bull - breakfast on the go?

Have I turned into Victor Meldrew or is this just wrong?

Have to agree - feel sorry for the kids these days, not just what they choose to eat - but all the crap in 'food' that they don't really know (look) is there!

Re: Healthy kids?

Many parents don't bother making sure their children have a proper breakfast before they go to school in the mornings ...... proper diets start at home

Re: Healthy kids?

I`m sure when I was a kid we didn`t always eat the best food-crisps and sweets etc.

But we did have `games` and swimming lessons at primary school and then at `big school` two games afternoons and two gym lessons a week-more if one got into a school team-it`s not just the diet it`s the lack of exercise that is causing all these fat kids

Re: Healthy kids?

My kids would walk to school, and we`d go out for walks at weekends. Now they are driven everywhere. Part is parents laziness, part is due to over-protectiveness. And sometimes it`s due to their upbringing and peer pressure - I saw a boy get out of a car and refuse to walk across some grass because he might get his trainers `dirty`.

Re: Healthy kids?

The kids beside me spend a fortune every day in the local shops on sweets, crisps and cans of Irn Bru!! Also, they go into the butcher shop and get rolls and sausage!! A bus comes for the ones who go to the Catholic school and high school.

Re: Healthy kids?

I think it's great you folks are concerned about the kids of today, what they eat and so on, kids are lucky to have the older generation care because from what I see around me most of their parents are too busy to be bothered. the kids on my road play football and sometimes the cars fly around the corner, but the Mothers are nowhere in sight. Many's the time I had to rush out to warn the younger ones about the traffic danger.

Re: Healthy kids?

Not the world we grew up in. We did splurge on fudge sundaes, cokes and candy bars, but not every day; ate good homemade wholesome foods and walked almost everywhere ... plus gym class in school where even the nerdy bookish types like me had to get out and exercise.
