Plurals

I was texting my daughter today about scarves and I couldn't for the life of me think if it was spelt scarfs or scarves.

I was always good at spelling but since getting older, I find myself querying spelling, even the most simplest of words.

So, how does scarf become scarves - why isn't it scarfs?
Similarly, thief becomes thieves.

Can you think of any other words that change when they are plural?

Man - men
Hoof - hooves
Foot - feet

Ah but , octopus - ocotopi, octopuses or octopodes! 😀
Ocotopi is not recognised as official.
