School choices

Not sure how a friend of ours is going to work this one out, she got her 5th choice of secondary school for her daughter, which means she has to drop her younger son at graces school 10 miles from where she has to drop her daughter at the secondary school and just 15 minutes later she has to be at work (a 20 minute drive) from either school.

I am sure she is not alone today wondering what has happened to going to the local school at the end of the road.

Re: School choices

It is all beyond me. I never had children so who am I to comment?. Choices were easy long ago. Pass the 11+ and get a bus pass into town. Not pass the 11+ and a `coach` picked you up at the bus stops.

Perhaps it's her own fault for making it her 5th. choice? I might be naïve but why did she "choose" a school that is so far away?

You have to give them 6 choices, her first 4 were manageable with them being near her home, she had to chose 2 others and she chose the nearest she could.

Re: School choices

My youngest daughter got her eldest son into the secondary school of her choice last year, and hopes that she will be able to get his younger brother into that school next year, and her daughter there in three years time.

Thanks, my daughter doesn't fancy any of the other schools for her kids.

Rea-Ly? Madness! Don't they take into consideration your circumstances? It's been established that the "5th" choice is impossible. I mean, and what if both schools require children to be in school at the very same time? Pure madness!

Well! Three minutes late to the airport ......... and you've missed the flight. Being nearly on time doesn't count for much.

No all they seem to care about is if you are in the right area, they don't look at your circumstances at all.

But between the two of us Julie, I refuse to believe that Britain would dip this poor women into the brown stuff ... and leave her there! Don't insult my "blue eyes". There just has to be a way round her predicament. I cannot believe there exists a catch 22 of such proportions in your country. Even here in Sweden there'd be a new decision made with regards impossible feasibility.
