Irritating Clichés

Are there any clichés that really get on your wick?

One of my pet hates (another cliché ) is the expression

"My heart goes out to (insert person(s) here)" as an expression of sympathy.

It's nonsensical in the extreme.

But very expressive !
I use it all the time.....but I'm sure you already know that.
My own pet hate is that awful expression 'get on your wick' I find that to be synonymous with scruffy ill-mannered kids in children's playgrounds in the 60's

Re: Irritating Clichés

Life’s full of them Judd, I'm afraid we're stuck with them and they get passed down to the younger ones, only yesterday as a film was starting on TV I said to the wife that it doesn’t look very promising, one of my teenage grandsons then said to me “Hey grandad, never judge a book by it’s cover” He never heard that one from me.

I don't like that one either! Judd. To me it sounds insincere as everyone says it.

Mine is, he/she 'turned round and said' ....
I just imagine someone turning their body around to speak!
