When a Saga bus driven by a Belgian bus driver broke down in Germany they had to get help from local (German) emergency services, and (although Flemish is so closely related to German) the common language spoken by the driver and the Germans was ... English, of course. (That driver didn't speak much English, but that was the language he had to use.)

I had a Dutch friend who I met while I was out with the dogs ..
She informed me her dog was on heath,

It was only when my male dogs got excited I realised she meant in heat !
