Long scenes with actors

I love Holby and Casualty and am frequently amazed when watching a scene with maybe two actors walking along the corridor, saying their lines and acting. I have trouble remembering many things, and certainly couldn't do that.

If one forgets their line and has to start again, then all the extras walking about the set would have to start again. I find myself not actually enjoying the show but marvelling at the long scene before there is a switch of camera angle.

Is it just me?

No Jazzi it's not just you!
I reckon between all of us here we've clocked up a fair few hours over the years of walking hospital corridors.
Have you EVER seen two doctors or nurses or consultants walking along talking about what would actually be confidential information!!!
Detectives and police are just as bad!

I must admit it's never occurred to me they might forget their lines!!
So...maybe it is just you!

Nope, not just you and it can be a problem

You mean you are analytical about the direction etc and are therefore unable to forget the reality and immerse yourself in 'the story'

Hmmmmm ... dunno what the solution is, but it is possible to enjoy both, especially if the acting is good.

Well, the acting is normally good but we don't know how many takes were necessary to get there!

Maybe it is just me, eh? Still, I always enjoy the shows, nonetheless.

Re: Long scenes with actors

I never stutter whilst delivering my thoughts through hospital corridors. My advice to actors is … do not rehearse. Just stick to the main point and use your own vocabulary …. and if it's a load of crock just do as you would if you were trying to impress someone, or trying to pull some bird. It's all natural after that.
