90-year-old DJ sentenced for fatal hit and run on crossing

http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2016-...n-on-crossing/

"You're a man who reached 90 years of age, and who has led a blameless life until that incident. Your behaviour thereafter was cowardly, deceitful, manipulative and, in short, disgraceful and you must know that."

– JUDGE LYNCH QC

How sad that he couldnt have spared so many people their heartache by just owning up to what had happened..he wasnt wearing glasses when the accident occured which he was supposed to have been wearing.

He even carried on driving after knocking the lady down and then tried to cover it up and he still got off scott free unbelievable!! What the hell was the judge thinking to let him walk away free?

I know I would have been more than angry about it if it had been one of my family he had killed and tried to lie his way out.

None of us can help having 'an accident', but to not be man enough to help, or own up is unforgivable.

He was given a 20 month suspended sentence, 8 months for causing death by careless driving and 12 months for perverting the course of justice.
Too little for killing someone and then trying to deny responsibility and evade justice .....

They do love their meaningless 'suspended sentences', don't they.
In other words, a licence to go out and do it again.

It seems to me that the courts consider it their responsibility to encourage crime. Perhaps they want to ensure the security of their jobs.

There are two things, other than the sentence ..that are abhorrent about this.

First ...how can any decent person know they have knocked someone down and then just drive off without helping them?

Two .. how can any one with any conscience or sense of remorse then take time to fabricate and plant evidence, including hiding his car and spin a pack of lies.
He knew he was guilty and the seriousness of what he had done.

He should have been jailed.

Yes he certainly should have had the book thrown at him. So can someone please tell me how the hell he got away with it?

Perhaps it is a case of not "what you know", but "who you know".
Just saying.

Easy. You just need to ensure your case is being heard by one of our out-of-touch judges who live on a different planet.

That's most of them, it seems.
