Potus

Can anyone tell me when the acronym POTUS came into use? Despite having lived in the US in the past, visited more times than I would have wanted, and still having a brother who lives there, I only became aware of this acronym quite recently.

Is it just a Twitter thing?

It's pretty old, but has become more widely used in recent years.

I'd never heard of it until I spotted Americans using it on forums.
I assumed .. and also quite liked the idea of not having to type out President of the United States all the time.
