Mixed Metaphors

Just heard a TV presenter at the indoor bowls tournament say...."When the chips are down, the cream always rises to the top" ....I am still laughing !

Re: Mixed Metaphors

My Dad used to make us laugh because he was always getting 2 or even 3 metaphors muddled into one. He would get so cross when we cracked up at things like - "don't burn your bridges before they're hatched." Bless him.

Re: Mixed Metaphors

I apologise if you thought I was rude Malcolm. I misjudged you. From your post on Uncle Joe's thread I assumed you were a man who believed in plain speaking. I got it wrong, sorry.

Re: Mixed Metaphors

I think if I was commentating on indoor bowls I too might be lost for words and have to resort to mixing my metaphors

Maybe 'a rolling stone gathers no moss when trying to separate the sheep from the goats' would be appropriate for this kind of game.
I am sure someone else can do better
