Clanden House restoration

The National Trust is going to spend millions on this restoration
Half is going to be modernized ( one imagines luxury flats )

Worth the money ?

Two minds here......

I like looking around old houses etc,

but worth the money? I can think of better uses.

Re: Clanden House restoration

I watched the News report last night ,Muddy and they are going to restore the ground floor to original state , the upper floors are going to be made modern ..
I love going round these old stately homes , but think the money could be spent else where..

Yes, worth the money imo.
Apart from employing all manner of tradespeople it's nice to see money spent on our heritage.

yes i like to see money spent on our heritage too , but not all in one place .
Theres just a shell left , the outside walls , so its practualy a rebuild on the inside ..
There must be a few Stately homes that are in need of repairs but , dont have the money ..
I see on the NT site they have a page for donating towards
the repair of it ..

Personally i don't think its worth it .
I dont think i would go and visit a make over ,
Sell it to developers who will retain the shell .

I saw that on the news. All I can say is the NT have money to throw around & more money than sense.
It looked in a shocking state from the news article, sell it I'd say.

I agree Tpin I think it is important to preserve our cultural heritage.
Clandon House was grade 1 listed and a fine example of Palladian architecture.
Many tourists come to to visit our great houses, once lost they can never be replaced.

I read somewhere that there will be an insurance pay out of £68 million, that should help fund the restoration.
