The Lottery

Okay... so, a month has gone by, people are playing the lottery and no one has won. The jackpot as of tonight is 700 million dollars and counting. Which means, that if sales of tickets keep selling at the current rate, by Saturday night's drawing, the winner could win upto 800 million dollars.

Soneone will win of course. But the odds are very very slim that, I for example, could have the winning numbers. In fact, the odds say, that I would have a better chance of getting hit by lightning on a sunny day than winning the lottery.

So this is a poor man's dream. Getting sonething for nothing and we all know what happens when that occurs, right ? That something we get for nothing has no value so, in this case, the money will be badly spent and will eventually evaporate before our eyes. Another words, easy come.. easy go.

Re: The Lottery

That's a heck of a jackpot!
I hope it's shared amongst a few people.
If I remember correctly, the tax man gets 35% in the US?
Still would be a lot of money.
Dream on!

Re: The Lottery

Why assume the money would be badly spent just because it wasn't earned?

Re: The Lottery

If I won (and I have bought a ticket for the first time in about 5 years), I would like a bungalow with a low maintenance garden. Other than that I would probably give most of it away.

A Savvy Maths person, buying a one off ticket on the strength of a multiple Roll Over, against odds of 45m to one. What has become of you Alan.

As a savvy mathematician I work on the principal that I have a better chance of winning if I buy a ticket than if I don't, thanks Spitty.

That mentality could have been applied to the last five years.

Re: The Lottery

I don't do the lottery as you've more chance of going up to a stranger in the street and correctly guessing their telephone number!
Of course, you have to be in it to win it, so the other night I jotted down the numbers I would've chosen if I had done it. I got two!
