Photographers help!

We are in a big deep freeze here - talking temps averaging -16 C as the warmest part of the day.
We know to make sure the battery is fully charged.
We keep the camera in an airtight plastic bag before bringing it inside, so it warms up gradually.
We know all that stuff, but can somebody help us with the camera settings?
They're clear, but just a bit blurry.
(Don't count my entry in the photo competition - that was totally my fault from resizing in Photobucket that made it blurry)
I am a total amateur. But with the very cold temps we're having, it is so beautiful outside, and we would love to capture it. We're going to head out to the lake and rivers this weekend, and would like to capture it as best as we can.
Thank you for any advice!

Sorry, I can't help LMB. I know very little about the technicalities of photography, I'm just a 'point and click' snapper.

Re: Photographers help!

That's me too Alan!
And most of the time, with the camera on auto, it works ok.
We've waited till when we think the camera is acclimatized to the temp. And it does take the picture, but the quality is piss-poor in a lot of them.
We've looked online but can't find much of anything.
I guess maybe we just go and try everything!

Re: Photographers help!

You're a great help, Alan. But so am I. I don't even understand the problem. Blurry pictures and battery problems?
What exactly do you want to know lovemyboys?

ps just thought of something. If pictures turn out blurry, perhaps the lens is fogging up due to temperature changes.

Ta for the ps!
Already checked for that - well me man did!
But maybe it is still part of it- even though it doesn't look fogged up.
The pictures aren't really foggy though.
Hang on - let me resize one and upload it.

Ok, this one's not showing blurry at this size, but it is!
